In July of 2006, the International Criminal Court (ICC) notified John F. Renner, Esquire that he met the qualifications necessary for inclusion to the List of Counsel who are eligible for appointment to represent an accused or victim before the Court. Mr. Renner met the requirements of the Court set forth in Rule 22 of the Rules of Procedures and Regulation 67 of the Regulations of the Court. The ICC is a permanently established Court responsible to try persons accused of extremely serious international crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court established the ICC on July 17, 1998 by the United Nations Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries on Establishment of an International Criminal Court. Participation by a state is voluntary as the Rome Statute is an international treaty. 100 States today participate in the treaty and are known as Parties to the Statute.
